Join Our Movement

As democratic socialists, we believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are the Binghamton University chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America. On campus, we fight to make our university a place where students and workers can thrive — where our university works for us, not unelected administrators.

No Shortcuts Reading Group

7x,
Virtual Event
Join Binghamton YDSA at our No Shortcuts reading group. No Shortcuts is a pivotal organizing book that teaches structure-based organizing and the importance of building mass, democratic, and worker-led power. We'll focus on how to apply McAlevey's lessons to our own YDSA organizing and labor organizing. The reading group will be every week on Sunday at 4 PM from June 14th to July 26th, and you should read each assigned chapter before the session. Reading Schedule (one chapter each week): Session 1 (6/14): Introduction (pgs. 1–26) Session 2 (6/21): The Power to Win is in the Community, Not the Boardroom (pgs. 27–70) Session 3 (6/28): Nursing Home Unions: Class Snuggle vs. Class Struggle (pgs. 71–101) Session 4 (7/5): Chicago Teachers: Building a Resilient Union (pgs. 100–142) Session 5 (7/12): Smithfield Foods: A Huge Success You’ve Hardly Heard About (pgs. 143–178) Session 6 (7/19): Make the Road New York (pgs. 179–198) Session 7 (7/26): Conclusion: Pretend Power vs. Actual Power (pgs. 199–212)
